Who We Are
The Nigerian Capital Market institute (NCM)
is the educational and training arm of the Nigerian capital
market. The institute has evolved over time, having started
as a Training Division in the Human Recourses Department of
the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).It later metamorphoses
into a training School and thereafter registered as the Nigerian
Capital Market Institute.
The Nigerian Capital Market institute was
registered by the corporate affair Commission (CAC) on the
26th Day of March, 2004 as a company limited by guarantee.
It is now a separate legal entity affiliated to the Securities
and Exchange Commission.
The establishment of the Nigerian Capital
Market institute is in furtherance of section 82 of the investment
and securities Act No. 45 of 1999 which gives the Securities
and Exchange Commission the power to promote investor and
training of all categories of regular and intermediate in
the capital market.

training, development and research services in Nigeria and the

To be a viable capacity building tool for instituting
professionalism, transparency, integrity and best practices
in the Nigerian and African Markets.

The Nigerian capital
market institute is therefore saddled with responsibilities,
among other things, to:

Organize and carry out training programmes
including courses, seminar, workshops, talk shops, etc
on the capital market for SEC Staff as well capital market
operator, intermediate, student and member of the general
public interested in the capital market and allied matters:

Sponsors workshop, research, information
services and educational activities to improve economic
and business management, increase private sector initiative,
and participate and leadership and gain widespread support
for realistic and progressive economic programmes.

Organize courses and practical educational
instructions for its members bureaucrat, economic leaders,
decision makers, academia, labour and other person in
Nigeria so as to enhance their understanding of the Nigeria
capital market and its management: and

Set up and fund efforts and activities
to carry on practical research on the Nigeria capital
market in particular and economy in general, including
but not limited to energy,commodities,banking,insurance,manufacturing,agriculture,professional
services and any other sector that the board of Directors
may determine from time to time.

We identify the weakness of capital market operators and organize
capacity building programmes to enlighten them thereby ensuring
that only fit and proper person are allowed to function in
the Nigeria Market.
The institute provides a formal institutional setting for
the training and development of market operator in then Nigerian
market.In accordance with its mandate,the Nigerian Capital
Market institute Facilatates interaction of operator in the
capital market including but not restricted to the following:

- Solicitors
- Registrars
- Reporting Accountants
- Issuing Houses
- Issuers of Securities
- Auditors
- Receiving bankers
- Trustees

The Institute conducts its business in line with core values

The focus of the programmes is three-pronged: Capital market
and institutions, Corporate Finance and investment Banking;
and Investment Risk Management. The institution has five (5)
Training and development modules and are designed to accommodate
the continuously changing need of capital market operators
and Professional Managers. They are also structures to be
situated and market specific within the context of the global
financial system.
The board of Direcxtors,which also includes the executives
Directors of the Institute,determing the Policy of the institute.The
Executive Director overseer the dayto day administration of
the institute.The Institute currently has it head office at
Plot 117,Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent Wuse II,Abuja.
The Nigeria Capital Market institute has 3 Divisions.
The Divisions Are:
- The Programmes Division
- The Marketing and Consultancy Division, and
- The Administration and Finance Division; all headed by
Divisional Head.
The institute continuously adopts method to reflect the dynamics
nature of the financial sector by conducting research aimed
at enhancing the understanding of operators of the Nigerian
Capital market and its management. We publish our activities
through such media as speeches, conference proceedings, economic
indicators, economic action agenda, position papers, research
papers, journal, and the like.

- Institutionalization of formal training of stakeholders
in the Nigeria Capital Market;
- Increase awareness creation of the potential of the market;
- Tailored Training of Capital market operators and investors,
over 2000 person have benefited to date from programmes
such as:
- Capital Market Product and services;
- Capital Market law and ethics;
- Capital market Rules and Regulations;
- Securities Analysis;
- Portfolio Management Techniques;
- Combating Financial Crimes in Nigeria, etc, etc
- Wide circulation of workshop communiqués, which
has had significant impact on the market.

Future Outlook

There are on-going efforts to network
with other similar institute nationally and internationally
for purposes of Synergy and sharing experiences.

The Institute plans to develop and
maintain a data bank on securities trading, share Price
index, record of Dealings at securities and commodities
exchange, capital trade point, OTCs, external and domestic
investment inflows in the securities sector and other
securities data useful for Monitoring and fostering development
of the Nigerian securities industry.

It is envisage that with time, the
Institute will apply for and obtain the approval of the
federal Ministry of Education or other relevant authorities
to award certificate and diploma to participant at its
programmes and courses to be determined by the Board of
Directors either by itself or by affiliation and cooperation
with any educational institution within and outside Nigeria.

There is a felt need to facilitate
interaction between regulator of the Nigeria Securities
industry, self-regulatory organizations (SROs) and other
professional engaged in or connected with the industry
by sponsoring and organizing periodic luncheons, dinners
securities summit, retreats, workshops, educational, public
and private dialogues.
